Top 10 Tuesday: 2018 Bookish Resolutions

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme created by The Broke and The Bookish and is now being hosted by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday Topic is Bookish Goals/Resolutions. I love this topic because resolutions and goal setting – especially when it comes to bookish things – is my jam. I love setting goals and knocking them out of the park so that I can give myself a nice little pat on the back. For some reason, though, when it was time to think of my bookish goals for this year, I had a hard time! I mean, I know what my bookish goals are but it was, oddly enough, hard to get them down on paper. Eh. Anyway. Here are my Bookish Resolutions for 2018

01. Go to the Library More.
In 2017, I could count how many times I went to the public library on one hand. Embarrassing, I know, but sometimes the truth is unfortunate! Between returning to work, having a 2-year-old, and losing my library card I just didn’t make it to the library much at all. I am really trying to change that in 2018. We haven’t been to the library yet this year, but I think we’ll stop by for a visit after work tomorrow!

02. Be realistic about the amount of books I can borrow.
Ok, so when I do go to the library, I tend to get a little crazy. I borrow stacks and stacks of books for Lala and myself. And I only read about half of them. While I do want to enjoy ALL THE BOOKS, I realize it’s not realistic or fair of me to borrow five billion books at once. This one is going to take a lot of self-discipline but I think I’ll cap myself out at 4 library books per visit for myself.

03. Read more of the books on my personal bookshelf.
Like most bookworms, my life goal is to own enough books to have my own personal library. I’ve gotta tell ya, I’m well on my way to reaching that goal. But, aside from what’s on my Nook, I hardly ever read the books that are actually on my bookshelf.

04. Explore different genres.
I am definitely the type of reader who likes to stick with what she knows. For a long time, I only read YA books and then I discovered that I actually loved Adult Fiction, which is pretty much all I read now. I’m hoping to explore some different-to-me genres…because really every genre is great, it’s just preference gets in the way!

05. Read to Lala more.
For the most part, Lala gets read to pretty often. They read in school and we do try to read to her before bedtime but 2-year-olds are unpredictable so we don’t always get around to it. I want to be better about reading to her consistently.

06. Grow this blog.
So hey, if you’re new here um…so am I! I decided literally days ago that I really, really, really wanted to start up a book blog so I took a leap of faith and here I am. I am a long time lurker of bookish blogs and I even had a very small bookish blog back before I had a kid. Now, though, I wanted to create a book blog for readers of all ages. I’m hoping to not only talk about books for grown ups here but books for readers of all ages!

So there ya have it folks. My Bookish Resolutions for 2018. They’re pretty simple but they’re good enough for me. What are your 2018 Bookish Resolutions?

Good luck with growing your blog! It can take some time, and I’m not totally there yet, but I think it’s worth it!

Love your goals, especially the one to read to your daughter. My daughter has been grown for many years, but I read and read and read to her. Even when she was in her teens. And love the library goal, but I do understand about being realistic about what you can actually finish from there. Good luck!

These are great goals! I also want to read more of my own personal books. I used to read to my kids all the time when they were young and we created so many memorable memories. So I do hope you read to Lala more. 🙂

I go crazy at the library too and justify it with “hey, I need choices.” Good luck on all of your goals.

It seems like no. 3 is on everyone’s list. We often forget the old books because of the new releases. I really hope to cut down my TBR.
I hope you accomplish all of your goals this year 🙂

Great goals! I’m bad about overdoing it with library checkouts too. I don’t quite know what I’m thinking but I always end up with huge stacks of books that I know I’m not going to get around to reading. Reading to a 2 year old can definitely be a challenge! Good luck with your goals!
