T10T: Books That Have Been On My TBR Forever…

…that I haven’t gotten around to reading yet.

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. Click through for all the Top 10 Tuesday prompts and more bookish fun!

Let’s be real here, pretty much every bookish person in the world has a never-ending TBR list. It’s a fact of life. There’s never enough time to read every single book you want to read. Plus they keep publishing new books that you just have to add and therefore your list is never ending. I don’t think there are any problems really with having a long TBR list. Except that there are books that have been on my list for forever that I’ve kinda just forgotten about at this point.

Most of these books were added to my Goodreads ‘Want To Read’ list between 2011 and 2013. Some of them have been on my personal TBR since long before 2011. A lot of them are books that I actually own. As in, they’ve been sitting on my shelves or in my Nook for years and years already but for whatever reason, I haven’t gotten to them yet.

1. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I’ve only ever heard good things about this book. When I added it to my list, I wasn’t really into science fiction type books but since reading books like Ready Player One and The Martian as well as other space travel type books, I think this would be a perfect read. I own it and I just downloaded the e-book version for my Google Home Mini so maybe I’ll read it sooner rather than later.

2. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
Until seeing this on my Want To Read list like 5 seconds ago, I completely forgot about this book! It was recommended to me by a friend and has great reviews. I’ll be moving this one up on my list for sure.

3. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I believe this one was added to my TBR back when the movie was super popular and I wanted to look like I actually read classics. But I don’t read classics. I’m just not into them. I am still interested in the actual plot of this book rather than the hype it got back then so maybe I’ll read it one day. I’m not in any rush, though.

4. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
This book was another recommendation from a friend that I just never got around to. I have this book on my Nook but I’m not sure if I’ll be reading it any time soon.

5. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I know, I know..why didn’t I read this book as a child like literally every single other person in the world (ok…I’m exaggerating. But still)? I honestly don’t know. I just wasn’t into it, I guess. I actually think that this book is better read and understood as an adult anyway, maybe. Anyway, one of my goals is to actually read this book this year so it’s gonna happen people!!

6. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
The only reason why I have refused to watch Outlander the show is because I haven’t read Outlander the book yet. Obviously I need to get on it.

7. Wicked by Gregory Michaels
This book has literally been on my TBR since 2008. And by that I mean that I have owned this book since 2008 and it’s just been sitting on my shelf this whole time. I’ve started reading this one many, many times but haven’t been able to get into it. Part of me thinks that I should finally take this off my TBR but I’m so far in to this mess I’d feel like a failure if I didn’t keep it on there.

8. The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
For some reason, I’ve been saving this book because I just haven’t found the “right time” to read it. I have to prepare myself a lot for emotional books such as this one. I’m thinking I just need to read it already, though.

9. Girls In White Dresses by Jennifer Close
I also own this book. I’ve scrolled past this book many, many times thinking I’d finally read it but it never happens. At first it was because I wasn’t really into the adult fiction genre. Now I absolutely love adult fiction sooo maybe I’ll get into this one soon.

10. The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides
This book was a recommended reading book for one of my classes back in the day. Because it wasn’t required, I never picked it up but I did add it to my Want to Read list. Of all the books on this list, I think this is the one that I probably won’t be picking up at all, but I’m not sure.

Have you read any of the books on my list? Which book of these do you think I should read first?

Until Next Time,

I’ve been curious to read more Jeffrey Eugenides. I’ve only read The Virgin Suicides but heard his other work is better.

I read WIcked years ago and really enjoyed it so I hope you do too. The Hitchhiker’s Guide is great and will want you to keep on reading the rest of the books. Have been wanting to read The Kite Runner for the longest time.

I keep hearing that The Hitchhiker’s Guide is one of those books that sucks you in and you can basically get it done in one sitting! I’m definitely going to have to make some time to read it.

I can’t stand The Great Gatsby. It’s one of those books where the hype was always far more than the reality of the text for me. And I’m still miffed I had to endure it for school Blah. Hitchiker’s is another “classic” I’ve never got to *blushes* and I really should have !

I’m thinking it might be time to kick The Great Gatsby off my list…I’ve heard that it really is not worth the hype at all.

Thanks for stopping by!

Gracious alive, yes, you need to read The Little Prince right now. It’s a very short read. Unforgettable. IMVHO.

I love the Outlander TV show, but I’m not sure if I’d like the books, yes I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out, I like different things on screen than I do in books and I can deal with romance a little better on TV and in movies than in books, for some reason it irritates me less!

Yes, I totally get it! I’m the same way. There are books that I’ve loved for one reason, then I like the movie for another reason. The biggest reason why I haven’t watched Outlander yet is because I’m weird about watching movies/shows with a book before reading the actual book.

Hitchhiker’s Guide is so good! It goes a lot quicker than you think it will, and the descriptions alone are so uniquely hilarious you’ll find yourself rereading them just because they made you giggle. And the movie is great too! 🙂 Hope you get the chance to enjoy these reads soon!

I might have to get my boyfriend to read it with me now. That sounds like just the kind of book he’d actually read.

Thank you for stopping by!

The Kite Runner, I forgot to add that to my list 😉 I personally didn’t think The Great Gatsby was all that great, I think I gave it one star, but it is a well loved classic. I also have to prepare myself for emotional reads. Great list Tasia. Happy Reading

I am hearing a lot of that about The Great Gatsby! I think that one will have to hit the road soon.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Oh, The Kite Runner. I read that book over 15 years ago and it still haunts me. I can remember sitting on my couch telling my boyfriend (now husband) that it was horrible. He kept asking me why I kept reading it. I just needed to know how it ended. Good luck and have some tissues handy for that one.

I keep hearing that it is a haunting book. I think that’ll be a read for a time when I have nothing else to do but read and cry!
